Program 2023
Pain, sorrow, comfort and joy - these are emotions that even young children know. And it's these emotions opera has always been about! "Orpheus’ comfort" is an opera for babies and toddlers, where children and adults together get to experience losing something - and finding it again!
Orpheus cries out – he has lost the most precious thing in his life, his dear Euridice! He becomes sad and mourns. Then Euridice appears, but suddenly disappears again! Gone again - appears again! Peek-a-boo! It all turns into a game.
In the baby opera Orfeus' comfort, children and adults are invited to revisit the Baroque era. The music is composed by Maja S. K. Ratkje, based on Christoph Willibald Gluck's aria from the opera Orpheus and Euridice (1774). With costumes, dances and sounds from long ago “Orfeus’ comfort” shows us how we can constantly find each other again - and find comfort.
Orpheus' comfort is an opera for babies, and is suitable for children between 0-3 years. It is co-produced by the Norwegian Opera & Ballet.
