Program

New Religion

New Religion is a critically acclaimed production by Tromsø artist Mathilde Caeyers. It is a science fiction dance performance where artificial intelligence gains a god-like authority over man.

New Religion Marthe Thu

What is free will in a high-tech society? On stage, the dancers move within a four-meter-high labyrinth, which is constantly changing shape, dictating the dancers' available space. The labyrinth, a work by artist Lawrence Malstaf, creates a cold, mechanical and dystopian feel, which contrasts the human and organic nature represented by the dancers.

- New Religion is Caeyer's second main stage performance and consolidates this artist's position: She has something on her mind and she manages to convey it. She offers a strong aesthetic experience where the dance art attaches itself closely to the visual arts and music, wrote Anki Gerhardsen of Nordlys in her review of the performance at the Arctic Arts Festival.
