In 2024, Tromsø Big Band celebrate their 20th anniversary and they have invited on of the biggest legends in jazz to join them.
In the eyes of Tromsø Big Band and band leader Fred Glesnes, there was only one name on the list as the anniversary year approached. Randy Brecker - the man who has played with Blood Sweat and Tears, Frank Sinatra, Frank Zappa, Bruce Springsteen, Jaco Pastorius, Billy Cobham and Stevie Wonder, to name but a few. Together with his brother Michael he also had great success with the his own band, The Brecker Brothers.
Randy Brecker has won the Grammy 7 times and been nominated a total of 20 times. In 2019, he won the Grammy for best jazz solo, at the age of 73.
Tromsø Big Band was excellent, that's why I'm coming back.– Randy Brecker
- Randy is the most influential musician, composer and teacher in jazz music ever, says leader of Tromsø Big Band, Fred Glesnes.
Despite his status, despite the fact that he is world famous, he is the warmest and most relaxed guy you can meet. Completely laid-back.
Fred Glesnes has played with Brecker on several occasions. With Tromsø Big Band back in 2007 for a sold-out Tromsø Kulturhus. A few years later, Glesnes and Brecker went on tour with the Glesnes/Ytreberg Quartet. The queue outside Verkstedet in Tromsø was so long that the concert got delayed.
- Randy enjoys Tromsø, and he is looking forward to coming back. He never only revisits his old material, he is constantly writing new music and he is in excellent playing form at the moment, says Glesnes.
Join us for a world-class anniversary!
