Sondre Moshagen Lightning Trio

Rooted in the compositions of Sondre Moshagen, this young trio delivers a brilliantly energetic interplay. Drawing references from classical impressionism, 1960s American free jazz, and 1980s pop music, they navigate between minimalist, collective passages focused on texture and tonal colors, and explosive, soloistic sections.

The Sondre Moshagen Lightning Trio first came together at the jazz program in Trondheim in the autumn of 2022. Following last year’s edition of the Jazzintro launch program, the trio was named Young Jazz Musicians of the Year 2024 and, as part of the launch, will appear at several of this year’s festivals. The jury’s statement highlighted the trio's clear and excellent chemistry, strong individual voices, and a blend of finesse and maturity.

The compositions are of high caliber, with a strong rhythmic authority that creates expansive musical spaces. Their melodic and harmonic ideas give them a distinctive identity that results in truly beautiful moments. The trio’s confidence and presence are infectious, captivating the audience and leaving them eager to hear more.
