Nordnorsk Jazzensemble: Vippepunktet (The Tipping Point)

The Tipping Point is a commissioned piece composed by Jakop Hauan Janssønn, who is one of our most exciting and creative musicians and composers.

The title refers to what happens when something small upsets the balance of a system and provokes a big change. Life in the Arctic takes place during a dramatic, enigmatic and emotional scene of violent climatic, environmental, political and economic changes. By using "The tipping point" as inspiration for the piece, Janssønn wants to turn our attention to our part of the country and shed new light on the many challenges we may face when we approach a tipping point.

Janssønn’s music has been described as northern music made up of artistic expressions from all over the world. “The Tipping point” is a fairy tale journey moving through jazz, folk and world music.

Nordnorsk Jazzensemble was established in 2020, and "The Tipping point" is the ensemble's first production. The premiere was originally planned for the Northern Lights Festival in 2021 but was cancelled due to covid. The ensemble performed their first concert during the Arctic Arts Festival in Harstad five months later, performing Flora Eallin by Leagus, which received great reviews.
