Vinterreisen

With its well-composed songs, Vinterreisen (Winterreise) provides a unique opportunity to reflect on life's origin, life's end, and it's meaning.

Duo RIN00791 BLUE SMAL

A journey through this work can be interpreted in so many ways. In an age where technology, efficiency and productivity characterize our lives in such a way that performance anxiety and mental illness are a recurring theme among the young generations, Tvinnerheim and Båtstrand want to make room for reflection on these existential questions. Their interpretation of this Schubert's famous work makes room for hope just as much as desperation.

Winterreise Op. 89 (D911) consists of 24 songs and is based on texts by the German lyricist Wilhelm Müller (1794-1827), who is considered one of the greatest German poets. Like Schubert, who is also considered one of the greatest romantic composers and the father of the romance song, Müller died in his early 30s. Schubert's last years were characterized by much illness and discouragement. Winterreise is a work that reflects this process. The work is among the most performed song cycles from the romantic song repertoire, which is probably due to the existential questions posed in the lyrics and the profound musical expression in the composition.

This version of Winterreise is performed in Norwegian, interpreted and translated by André Bjerke.
