PROGRAM 2026
Hamid Sakhizada & Fribyorkesteret

Hamid Sakhizadas music from Afghanistan meets Nordic traditions and jazz in this collaboration with Fribyorkesteret
Kabul, as a historic meeting place along the Silk Road, was a hub for caravans carrying spices, silks and gemstones — not to mention new ideas, art and culture.
However, the city has been marked by war and conflicts for centuries. In present-day Afghanistan, the regime bans music and artists, including women's literature and occupational participation. That's why it becomes extra important to keep Afghan music alive internationally.
Hamid Sakhizada, a classically trained musician and dambura player with roots in Hazara folk music, has long dreamed of an orchestra in which his compositions inspired by Kabul blend with Nordic folk, jazz and other Silk Road traditions. This collaboration in Fribyorkesteres is the opportunity he has been waiting for
The project is supported by Arctic Music Circles and is organized in collaboration with Scene Nord.
