A symbol of innovation in electronic music celebrates 50 years

Tangerine Dream are undisputed pioneers of electronic music. Now they come for the first time to Tromsø and the Northern Lights Festival, with a spectacular audiovisual performance. The concert marks the 50th anniversary of Stratosfear, an album that has been left as a symbol of innovation electronic music.
Founded in Berlin in 1967 by Edgar Froese, Tangerine Dream has since its inception paved the way in electronic music. With the album Phaedra (1974) they set a new standard for the genre and played a key role in the development of experimental and synthesizer-based music. Their soundscape combines analog sequencers, modular synth, mellotron, and tape experiments with atmospheric textures and repetitive rhythm patterns.
Through more than a hundred albums, the band has had tremendous influence on everything from ambient and krautrock, to modern electronic music. They are also known for their film music, with over 60 soundtracks to films such as Thief, Risky Business and Legend. The band has received seven Grammy nominations and inspired artists such as Jean-Michel Jarre, Depeche Mode, Radiohead, Pink Floyd and David Bowie. In 2013, they composed the music for Grand Theft Auto V, which won the VGX Award for Best Game Soundtrack.
After Froese's death in 2015, the band is led by Thorsten Quaeschning, along with Hoshiko Yamane and Paul Frick. The new lineup has continued the band's sequencer-driven soundscape and combined it with live electronics and modern production techniques.
