PROGRAM 2026
Welcome back to one of the Northern Lights Festival's happiest and most important traditional concerts!

Every year students and teachers from the School of Culture, musicians from the Arctic Philharmonic, students from UiT, the Conservatory of Music and talented amateur musicians stand together on stage during the Northern Lights Festival, this year is no exception!
UngSy gives young musicians the opportunity to play alongside professional orchestral musicians, and experience the amazing feeling it is to play in a large symphony orchestra. The joy and energy that ensues can be felt all the way out to the audience in the back row!
The Arctic Philharmonic describes this concert as an important way to contribute to the development of the classical music field in the region. Such close encounters with amazing music and interaction with other young musicians and professional performers help to facilitate the future of musicians in the country.
True to tradition, a young musician gets the opportunity to be a soloist at the concert. Several of those who have been participants and soloists with UngSy in the past are now into a higher education race on their way to a professional career
This year's soloist is talented Samuel Maxwell (14) on trumpet.
Samuel, despite his young age, has already been playing trumpet for eight years, and is now part of the internship program Young Talents Nord (UTn). School corps have been an important part of his music journey, recently advancing to “adult corps”. Samuel is already a versatile trumpeter and enjoys playing both jazz and classical music in big bands and corps.
We can't wait to see what he brings to the concert on the Main Stage.

The conductor is Ingunn Korsgård Hagen, one of Norway's young aspiring conductors. She has conducted all the major orchestras in Norway and is making her debut together with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, Aalborg Symphony Orchestra and the Kungliga Filharmonikerna in Stockholm this year. Ingunn has worked with performers across genres and expressions, and is also a guest lecturer in directing at the University of Stavanger.
We look forward to seeing the joy of playing for the entire orchestra on February 3rd - welcome!
