Manchester Collective celebrates Glass' 90th birthday
Philip Glass is one of the most influential composers of our time. To mark his 90th birthday in 2027, Manchester Collective is celebrating the occasion with a unique chamber concert.
The program places Glass’ music alongside both folk music and recent works for string quartet. Scottish folk tunes, arranged by the Danish String Quartet, two short preludes by Hans
Abrahamsen, and Edmund Finnis’ Devotions add different expressions and timbres as tradition and contemporary music meet.
Manchester Collective is known for innovative programming, cross-genre collaborations, and engaging concerts. Since its inception in 2016, the ensemble has brought classical works and new music to concert halls, clubs, and festivals alike. They are artists-in-residence at the Southbank Centre in London, have performed multiple times at the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall, and won the Royal Philharmonic Society’s prestigious Ensemble Award in 2023.
