A young generation interprets a masterpiece

When Mozart's Requiem fills the Cathedral during the Northern Lights Festival, it carries a very special power: young singers, musicians, and soloists from Tromsø are at the heart of a major local collaboration.
Soloists, orchestra, and choir members from the Conservatory of Music at UiT join forces with students from Kongsbakken upper secondary school, performing alongside professional musicians from Musikk i Nordland and Scene Nord. Together, they create a young and vital rendition of one of classical music's most poignant and monumental works. Conductor Øystein Jæger leads the performance, with Miriam Helms Ålien as concertmaster.
For the Northern Lights Festival, this project is an important part of our ongoing commitment to highlighting young resources, talents, and artistic voices in the North. The festival is proud to bring together the musicians of the future with experienced professionals, creating an arena where development, ambition, and the joy of music unite.
Mozart's Requiem was written in 1791 and stands as one of the composer's final and most significant works. The music encompasses darkness, drama, comfort, and light. This will be an evening of profound emotion and a rare opportunity to experience Mozart's immortal music through the eyes and dedication of a new generation.
