Tender Unit
A new and explosive dance piece about psychology, emotions, aggression, and intimacy
Set to live music by NONNE, choreographer Synne Lundesgaard tackles the defense mechanisms we use to protect ourselves when interacting with others: the urge to control, lash out, or withdraw when we feel vulnerable.
Tender Unit explores these patterns through a tight, virtuosic, and intimate dance language. The choreography is intense, consisting of explosive movements involving falls, throws, and crashes, made possible by protective gear integrated into the costumes—much like the emotional armor that allows us to navigate life's collisions and upheavals.
At times in dissonance and at times in harmony with the choreography, the music by the Tromsø duo Nonne is performed live on stage.
Together, the choreography by Synne Lundesgaard and the music by NONNE create a powerful and contrasting performance. Tender Unit will have its world premiere at the 2027 Northern Lights Festival, in the raw space of the Alfheim Swimming Pool.
