PROGRAM 2026
Ragnhild Hemsing & The Barokkanerne are coming to Tromsø with a reinterpretation of Vivaldi's, The Four Seasons from 1723

Festival profile, Ragnhild Hemsing, invites the well-reputed early-music ensemble, The Baroque, to Tromsø to perform Vivaldi — The Norwegian Seasons. Previous performances have generated excitement among audiences at home and abroad, while the album, released in 2024 by Berlin Classics, has garnered international acclaim and rave reviews.
“I love to dive deep into matter and explore a new soundscape in music. The Hardingfelen is Norway's baroque instrument, and in this concert we highlight some of the similarities between Vivaldi's baroque melodies and Norwegian folk music. - Ragnhild Hemsing

Few, if any, manage to fuse Norwegian folk and classical music like Ragnhild Hemsing. Fresh, modern, youthful and versatile, but at the same time with deep respect for the roots and traditions. The Baroccans are known for revitalizing Baroque music with an energy and freshness that engages broadly. This encounter between Italian Baroque music and Norwegian folk music has resulted in a programme unlike any other.
The Baroque, with its artistic director, Duncumb Adriatic, is one of the main pillars of the Norwegian early music community. In 2018, the ensemble merged with the Norwegian Baroque Orchestra. Both ensembles were founded in the late 1980s as the very first independent professional baroque orchestras on original instruments in Scandinavia. In recent years, Barokkanerne has performed at a number of national and international festivals, and also runs its own concert series in Oslo, with the festival, Oslo Early, as an annual highlight. The list of prestigious projects and releases is long, with Vivaldi - The Norwegian Seasons, as one of the most recognized.
