PROGRAM 2026
Welcome to a unique choral experience with Vokal Nord and Anna Gallon

It is in the depths of Alfheim Swimming Hall that Vokal Nord brings to life the ancient tales of the Kalevala and the mystique of Finnish folk poetry.
The program features compositions inspired by the Kalevala and the Finnish runolaulu tradition, taking the audience on a journey through mythical Pohjola, heroic adventures, and the forces of nature. Works by, among others, Jean Sibelius, Veljo Tormis, Jaakko Mäntyjärvi, and Lotta Hagfors blend with spontaneous choral improvisation, creating a living soundscape rooted in tradition and shaped in the moment.
Vokal Nord is Norway's northernmost professional chamber choir, based in Tromsø, and is referred to as one of the country's leading vocal ensembles. Started in 1997, the ensemble has built its identity in uniting classical choral timbre with voice usage associated with ethnic music from the northern regions.
The choir's artistic director, Anna Gallon, is a versatile Finnish musician, conductor, composer, singer and educator. Based in Helsinki, Gallon works as artistic director for both Philomela and Elegia, in addition to active freelance activities around Europe.
