Festival profile artist Marja Mortensson is one of the most important contemporary bearers of the South Sámi and Ume Sámi joik traditions. Her unique combination of these traditions, together with a highly distinctive sound world, has earned her widespread recognition both nationally and internationally. She has received numerous awards, including two Spellemann Awards for her releases.
At Nordlysfestivalen 2026, she will present two major concerts, in addition to taking part in a pedagogical project with a Sámi kindergarten. In the profile talk, we will gain insight into her unique artistic universe. The conversation will be moderated by Torjer Andreas Olsen, Professor of Indigenous Studies and Head of Sesam (Centre for Sámi Studies).
